These Conservatives are Not for the Environment 05 04 2010

Last night I came home late from exercising and my father was watching a news channel. The first thing I heard the moderator say was should we blame Obama’s policies for this oil spill in the gulf. And that is paraphrased but accurate.

What is the condition precedent that allowed the oil spill to happen? It is Republican false idealism. How much less dependent on foreign oil would we be had President Carter not lost his last presidential election? In 1978 they had a Photovoltaic Solar Cell about the size of a Silver Dollar that would power a small electric motor mounted on a plastic disk. It was pretty powerful because I took it to school one day and held it by the fan blade and the base spinn'd instead of the fan blade. My fifth grade teacher who was a nun said, “Don’t hold it like that, you’ll put it out of commission.” But I digress here a little from my point for nostalgia.

Too many years of the wrong focus from the Reagan and then Bush administration delayed development of this technology. Every year instead of trying to make it more feasible or advance its technology all you would here is “Solar Energy isn’t feasible, it’s not the answer.” Research and development grants should have been made more widely available a long time ago, with rewards for making benchmark targets.

When I listen to a Republican talk it is like they are in fairyland in terms of causality. You listen to them talk on the news channel and it is if they don’t have any prior knowledge of anything. They know they are just there to serve as a “Talking Game” to drum up and keep listeners and ratings high. Their lack of any insight is detrimental to the American populace. And a disgusting insult to our intelligence as a nation.

These oil wells should have been made with solid fault tolerant bases of mass. Some kind of bastion drilled and anchored to the bottom, which can be readily shut off or capped in many ways of protocol.

We may not have gotten a windfall tax on oil profits during the recent wars but can we at least get the responsible party to pay for the mess they made, and it is a big one. They will not want to pay. Can we mandate them to have a much larger portion of their revenue be derived from alternative energy, otherwise curtail their development and restrict their drilling rights? Should you be allowed to drill off our shores if you are as responsible as someone who feels everything they ever needed to know they learned in kindergarten?

A money culture labeled Conservatism has subverted a good of the people culture. These oil wells were not made responsibly. And aren’t these the same people who want to drill in National Parks and Refuges. Would a larger government with more checks and balances have prevented this? These Republicans are not of the character of Theodore Roosevelt who created over 150 national parks and forests and CONSERVED over 230 million acres. To them Conservatism means to do little work and assume authority. These Conservatives are not for the environment- or us.

God Bless,
